"I am nobody; I have nothing to do with explosions" – Paulette Beete

$200.00

The title of this work is from Sylvia Plath’s poem Tulips. Can a Black woman aspire to the same peace as a white woman? This piece interrogates the tension between the dual realities that for a Black (and fat!)  woman, stillness is often out of reach/ out of bounds (our very existence is a provocation) but stillness is necessary for creation, renewal, growth, all we need to thrive.
