Humpback Whales Playing in Puerto Vallarta

$2,500.00

Hannah Anderson

After an art workshop in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico I recalled the absolute delight of watching playful humpback whales frolic in the ocean. The pod of whales was a diverse community and each whale was included in the fun. We humans have a lot to learn from them.

Hannah Anderson – Mixed Media Painting

Hannah Anderson earned her BA in Bilingual Education from University of Washington (1975).  She immersed herself in education with bilingual children in NM and WA until pursuing certification as an educator of elementary age children with unique learning challenges.  She worked with children in public school settings until her two sons were born.

In 1990 she discerned a call to ordained ministry in the Episcopal Church (grew up Quaker).  She graduated in 1994 from School of Theology (Sewanee, TN) with a Masters of Divinity, followed by her doctorate in 2008 from Seabury-Western in Chicago. Hannah led parishes and served on diocesan staffs in the Northeast from 1994-2018.  When she retired from full-time ministry she became certified as a life coach and opened her company, Golden Thread Coaching.  Hannah also turned to painting  as her deepest prayer form and found spaces for an art studio/office wherever she lived.

ARTIST STATEMENT

American born abstract artist, Hannah Anderson (1953) was born into the neutral pallet of Quaker simplicity. Following her heart's passion for creativity began in secret as a child, remaining hidden until 1990 with the purchase of a Crayon watercolor set that led her back to her original love of painting. The fulness of her work was revealed in 2024 after decades of active gestation.

She is self-taught, drawn to contemporary artists whose expression of authenticity and freedom remind her to trust her own process. The dance of light and dark periods in her life inform her painting to engage the full spectrum and possibility of luminous color. Hannah sees the world through the artist eyes of a mother, Episcopal priest, grandmother, and lover of life.

She paints what her soul sees, often using abstract shape and representation as an invitation to see a deeper, different world. Elements of nature and pattern influence her strong graphic designs. Hannah’s work is intuitive and full of archetypal symbols that arise from within universal healing traditions including Christianity and Shamanism. She delights in playful mystery.

Hannah and her husband are new to Richmond, Virginia. She travels to Taos, New Mexico for inspiration and solitude. Her artistic mentor is Bob Burridge, abstract artist from Arroyo Grande, CA. with whom she now studies.
